Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian, or Gracie Jiu Jitsu was made famous internationally by the Gracie Family through Royce Gracie’s win in the original UFC. The martial art was developed based off of Judo and adapted to allow a weaker and smaller opponent to utilize technique and leverage to overcome a stronger, more athletic opponent. Since then, Brazilian or Gracie Jiu Jitsu has become a foundation for a well-developed mixed – martial arts (MMA) skill set. As a self-defense system, Jiu jitsu provides a solid foundation for techniques to extricate ones self from a violent situations. That is why Jiu Jitsu has become a pillar of the Army Combatives Program, the Marine Corp Martial Arts Program and the Special Operations Combatives Program, as well as many self defense systems utilized my military and law enforcement agencies around the world.

Jiu Jitsu also provides benefits for mental and physical fitness and resiliency. For those with injuries it can assist in developing core strength to protect the spine increase flexibility, and combat arthritis. It also causes the athlete to consider fluid and nutritional intake, sleep and priorities. Unlike many martial arts, Jiu Jitsu is strategic and requires more than decade for most active practitioners to become an instructor. Throughout ones Jiu Jitsu journey they will spend more time losing than winning. That experience provides a great deal of value for both adults and children as they build confidence, strength, flexibility, and mobility while they learn coping skills and humility. Most never realize the skills and muscle memory they build because the knowledge and confidence gained typically leads to conflict avoidance, preventing altercations as much as it does prepare one to protect and defend themselves from aggressors.
At 5th Element we build resiliency at every level throughout all of our athletes. Our certified and highly skilled instructors teach every athlete, from beginner to expert, how and when to defend themselves kicks, knees, elbows and punches. Whether one-on-one training in the striking arts or our cardio kickboxing class, you will improve your cardio, build confidence and improve your striking technique.
Our kickboxing classes provide a full body workout, while teaching each athlete to focus on avoiding conflict and disengaging, rather than promoting violence.
